Moraine Deposition

Glacial Moraines

Glaciers carry rock debris eroded from valleys. As ice melts at the terminus, debris is deposited as terminal moraines. Lateral moraines form along valley walls. When the glacier retreats, it leaves recessional moraines marking previous positions. Debris on the ice surface forms supraglacial moraines.
