🎛️ Regulatory Evolution

Morphological diversity evolves through changes in gene regulatory networks (GRNs). Cis-regulatory elements (enhancers) control when/where genes are expressed. Most evolution is regulatory, not protein-coding changes.

Evo-Devo: Animals share conserved "toolkit" genes (Hox, Pax, etc.). Morphological diversity arises from rewiring regulatory connections. CREs are modular - changes in one tissue don't affect others.
