Peripheral Drift Illusion

This illusion creates the sensation of motion in a static or slowly moving pattern when viewed with peripheral vision. The effect is caused by the interaction between color contrast and luminance gradients.

The pattern appears to rotate or flow, but it's actually stationary or moving very slowly. The illusion is strongest when you don't look directly at the moving elements.

Instructions:
• Stare at the center cross
• Notice the circular patterns appearing to rotate in your peripheral vision
• Look directly at the rotating patterns - they slow down or stop!
• The illusion works best with unfocused peripheral viewing
