Light passes through two narrow slits and the overlapping wave fronts create an interference pattern on a distant screen. Where crests meet crests (constructive interference), bright fringes appear. Where crests meet troughs (destructive interference), dark fringes form. This was the first definitive evidence that light behaves as a wave.
