Hele-Shaw Flow

When a less viscous fluid displaces a more viscous one in a thin gap (Hele-Shaw cell), the interface becomes unstable and develops "fingers." This Saffman-Taylor instability appears in oil recovery, CO₂ sequestration, and even bacterial colony growth.
